He earned his degree at the Foreign Trade and International Finance Department of Karl Marx University of Economic Sciences in 1981. His doctoral thesis was written about the monetary policy of the United States in 1986. After graduating from university, he worked as a business representative at the TESCO Foreign Trade Company for three years. In the period between 1984 and 1995, he worked for the Central-European International Bank Co., i. e. CIB, where he was first involved in the area of economics, then gained experience in the various transactional departments of the bank, and filled the position of a regional relationship manager at the international banking relations unit. Later he headed the first branch of the bank, which was located in Győr, then he became the head of the corporate financing department. After this period, from 1995, he was the director of the corporate division and an executive director at the Hungarian Foreign Trade Bank for eighteen months. His responsibilities included, among others, corporate financing, risk analysis, product development, the financing of small enterprises, and branch coordination. He had similar responsibilities at CIB again, between 1996 and 1997. From 1998, he used to work as a co-CEO in charge of corporate financing, as a Board member of HypoVereinsbank Hungaria Rt. From the summer of 1999, until he was appointed chairman of the Supervisory Authority, he used to work as the CEO of Konzumbank. From May 2000 to May 2004, he performed the chairman’s responsibilities of the Hungarian Financial Supervisory Authority (HFSA). In 2000 and 2001, he was also the chairman of the Board of Directors at the National Deposit Insurance Fund of Hungary. From August 2004, he was chief advisor to the President of OTP Bank, and in March 2006, he became the CEO of OTP Banka Srbija. From the end of 2008, he was again the chief advisor to the President of OTP Bank.

He holds an advanced level state language examination certificate in English, German and Russian.

He was born in Budapest in 1957. He is married with four children.
